I’m going to be extremely honest and open with you in this post right now. I’ve had a recent health scare. One that got me thinking VERY honestly about my life and how I would feel about it if I was told I only had so many months left to live. Would I be proud of the person I am? Would I be able to say that I spent my time here being who I wanted to be? Did I make a difference?
Nobody is perfect and there are times that I wish I would have taken several more moments before I responded in stressful situations. There are times that I wish I would have just played in the rain with my girls instead of telling them to come in before they got all muddy.
For my entire life I can remember that all I wanted to do was to make a change in the world. Selfishly, I want to be remembered by those that live on after I pass as someone who greatly contributed to making the world a better place. And because of my role as a grant writer, I do feel like I am the person that I always wanted to be.
I get to be a part of the bigger picture and work towards making this world better, bit by bit. It’s because of the inspired, loving, and mindful individuals that lead various nonprofit organizations.
I’ve been able to help organizations construct walking/biking trails, upgrade water and wastewater systems, build a brand new food resource center, hire new employees for small businesses, develop farm to school programs, offer programs that empower youth, offer programs that train leaders, offer free rehabilitation programs to veterans, enhance small community foundations, and so much more. WOW! Am I blessed to get to say that I got to be a part of those projects!
None of us are promised tomorrow. If you don’t feel like you are making the change that you would like to see in this world, please get out there and volunteer at an organization that speaks to your heart! It is, after all, all about love.
Cheers,
Bre
